Colonics

What is a Clonic? Fecal matter can accumulate and harden in the colon, leading to constipation, lack of absorption of water and nutrients, growth of harmful colon bacteria and yeast and increased absorption of toxins into the bloodstream. Colonics flush the colon in order to clean it and rid it of toxic buildup.
Duration:Lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

Process:
  1. Consultation: Fill out medical forms and have a consultation with the therapist
  2. Change: Change into a gown and lie face up on treatment table
  3. Insertion: Therapist inserts a disposable speculum connected to a hose from a hydrotherapy unit into the anus
  4. Irrigation: Warm, filtered water is slowly released into the colon, causing the muscles in the colon to contract, pushing waste out through the hose into a closed waste system
  5. Massage: While maintaining slow and steady irrigation, the therapist will often assist the process with reflexology and/or gentle abdominal massage to facilitate the process
  6. Bathroom: The therapist leaves the room, and you sit on a toilet to pass any residual water and stools
  • Removes accumulated waste from the colon
  • Many doctors do not feel colonics can improve overall health and believe they should only be used before certain medical procedures, such as a colonoscopy, or occasionally for constipation
  • Those who are proponents believe the following:
    • Helps prevent constipation
    • Improves overall health
  • Regulation is inconsistent. Research your state's regulations and look for a spa with trained therapists using FDA-registered equipment
  • Should not be administered on individuals with digestive tract diseases, problems or complications unless prescribed by a doctor
  • Regular treatments should be avoided if you have heart disease or kidney disease
  • Diets high in fiber, low in sugar, and low in red meat avoid problems requiring colonics
