Rita, I suggest you speak to your Doctor about your condition or a registered Dietician. Good luck!

TOTALLY agree! I've actually stopped dieting and started incorporating something healthy into my everyday life every week or so... One week I started walking at lunch, another I started making fruit smoothies for breakfast, another I started chopping up fresh veggies for snacks. I just do my best to maintain each new habit and I'm suddenly healthier than I've ever been! But the main thing that's helped is similar to what you mention about indulging. When encountering such a food, all I do is ask myself "Does that sound just INCREDIBLY good? Would it absolutely make my day to eat that?" If the answer's yes, I have some and enjoy it. But surprisingly, most of the time the answer's no, at which time I reason that I can hold out eating that until a time when it sounds REALLY good. As such, I know I can have anything I want anytime I want it...I just really have to want it...so I don't feel deprived! (So much of this is psychological, isn't it?) I'm down 9 lbs and am suddenly confident I can take off more! Keep the good tips coming--we're listening!

Hi Brett, I very much enjoy your blogs. I have a severe chronic spinal cord injury. On top of
this I take care of my 80 yo mother. She has mid stage alzheimers. And I have my 5 yo
grandson 3 days a wk. Somedays I have a hard time walking. Since my injury I have gained
alot of wt. 50lbs over 2 yrs. Partly due to immobility and even more so a bad diet. Do you have an suggestions to get me back on track. My doctor reccomends very light exercise.
No twisting or turnig of spine. Walking but only slow ,"go for distance not speed". Prior to my injury I did yoga and walked 2miles 5-6 x wk. I can only walk about a block before I am overcome with pain.

I love this philosophy. I totally believe in living healthy, but I also think that includes indulging often. My only problem is that I try to listen to my body, but all it ever says is "I'm starving!"
