Water should be pure and simple with no add stuff to it. Just use a good micron filter system under the kitchen sink but you will still have scale build up. The only thing that will remove scale is watersoftner but you must add a R.O system to it or else sodiem is too high.. . THe R.O system by it self is the best clean water. As for the water filter listed above, the KDF media that have inside the shower head is too little of use, most likly 200 hundred gallons will be use up. i would say 1 week the most. And i am not sure that it can make the water soft. You can go the a fish store and buy a water hardness test strip and find out. A good filter should be 10" long to have a good life to it. The smaller the Micron the more it will trap stuff..I am in the bottle water and filter business..

I agree totally!
After all - there is nothing wrong with just filtering water straight from the tap.

I recently bought a shower filter from http://www.pureshowers.com and I actually find that also helps me stay healthy and is great for my skin too. Added to filtering the water I drink.
