Simply stated, a healthy human diet requires proper balance and the right amounts of both macronutrients and micronutrients. If your diet is lacking in either, or is highly unbalanced, it can cause severe health issues.

Macronutrients, or food, are nutrients that provide you
with energy (calories*) and are needed in large amounts in order to live and function normally.

Micronutrients, or vitamins and minerals, are needed in minuscule amounts, but are essential to the body's production of enzymes, hormones and other substances necessary for proper growth and development. They can be found in food, as well as supplements.
